Points To Remember In Developing
A Fireplace Mantel Plan

Making a fireplace mantel plan seems to be a task only for professionals who have the know-how about the job. Actually, it does not have to be that way. The plan could also be made by an ordinary person with the right tools and a little bit of patience in order to finish the work. A mantelpiece is a large hood built on top of the fireplace to catch smoke from fire. But that was before and it mainly serves to be a chimney. But today, a mantel refers to the stone or wood that surrounds the fireplace which could be decorative as well.
Here are some of the basics in making a fireplace mantel plan. First, start by preparing the necessary tools like hammer, Phillip screw driver, tape measure, drill, lumber nails, pencil, penny finish nails and mounting boards. Install the backboards of the fireplace as this will serve to secure the mantel in place. It is also best to attach the top backing board directly to the studs in the wall.
Depending on the plan, you can build your fireplace mantel surround and be sure to assemble the top of the mantel on the floor beforehand. The mantel legs should be assembled on each side using the finish nails. Next in the fireplace mantel plan is to mark the mantel position on the wall. As the mantel legs are assembled to the mantel top, it can already be placed in position around the fireplace opening. Be sure to center the wood mantel surround.
Next step is to install the mounting boards. Secure the mounting boards to the wall by mounting it to the wall studs then install the mantel. You may paint the mantel prior to installation. Place the mantel and secure over the mounting boards using the finish nails. The mantel should be secured tight enough against the wall. The last step is to install the scribe molding inside. There may be instances where there is a gap between the fireplace facing material and the mantel legs. The scribe moldings will be used in order to bridge that gap. Those basic steps will guide according to a fireplace mantel plan.
